Having served 15 years as a professional footballer –14 of them in the competitive English Leagues – Gareth has a vast experience of the game, both on and off the field.
During his professional career, Gareth strived to not only perform at his very best on the field, but also put a great deal of work into planning for life after football. While still playing, he worked hard to attain the highest coaching accreditations possible, so when his playing career ended he could embark on another dream – to help elite young players achieve their goals in professional football. Gareth currently holds a An AFC FFA A Licence, an UEFA B Licence and also an FA Youth Module which is a requirement in England to coach in a Youth Academy. All his coaching qualifications were under taken in England and are internationally recognised.
Gareth is also an FFA Accredited Coach in Australia and an
AFC FFA A Licence holder.
His current qualifications would enable Gareth to coach in the A League in Australia and other top leagues around the world.
Level 3 Certificate in Coaching Football (UEFA B Licence) – Summary
Coaches who successfully complete this course gain detailed coaching knowledge based on functional practices, small sided
(8 v 8) and up to (11 v 11) games and phases of play to enhance game-related understanding. This knowledge allows them to evaluate player and team performance and set goals accordingly. They also know how to analyse matches, assess fitness, provide a psychological evaluation of players and build on nutritional awareness.
Premier League Football Academies have their own criteria for coaching appointments, but most would require a minimum Level 3 Award in Coaching Football (The FA UEFA B Award) or higher, as well as significant and successful coaching experience. The UEFA B Licence is recognised by all English Leagues and most international leagues, including Australia’s A League.

Innovation in Coaching Young Players – Summary
This module is only available from the award-leading English FA, and once again is internationally recognised. It presents a child-centred approach to the development of young players. The award recognises the important role of the coach and the influence they can have on levels of motivation and self-esteem in young players. It gives practical advice to help design coaching sessions that are “effective environments for learning”. It is recognised as an innovative course aimed at creating coaches who have an understanding of children and young players, as well as football.
Gareth is hoping to start of his Pro licence qualification in 2020.
