About Gareth - Forest to Fury and GESA
Gareth is a hard working & technically accomplished player with over 400 professional games under his belt. A graduate of the New South Wales Soccer Institute, alongside fellow players Harry Kewell & Bret Emerton, Gareth was selected to trial at English Premier League side Leeds United. It was here that manager Paul Hart first spotted Gareth and signed him up the following season (1997) to play for Premiership side Nottingham Forest, One of the earliest Nottingham Forest Youth Academy graduates, Gareth was favoured by David Platt and blossomed utilising his adaptability to develop into a first team player.
Gareth joined League 1 club Swindon Town in the summer of 2002, however, he only played one season for Swindon before moving to Championship club Bradford City, where he again stayed for just one season. He then moved to the newly-named Milton Keynes Dons, where he played from 2004, making more than 100 appearances. In his time at MK Dons he has scored vital goals, including his last gasp goal at the end of the 2004-05 season, which kept the Dons in League One. Gareth also got to Wembley with the Dons where they won the Johnston Paint Trophy
In May 2008, following MK Dons' promotion to League One, Gareth was signed by League One side Tranmere Rovers on a two-year contract.
In 2010, turning down offers to stay in English football, Gareth decided to return to his home country Australia, and signed for Hyundai A-League side North Queensland Fury. Gareth was named Vice Captain, and playing through difficult times the club was finally disbanded by FFA in 2011.
Over his career Gareth has also enjoyed coaching, gaining his Internationally Recognised Coaching Qualifications. Making the difficult decision to hang up his playing Boots, Gareth has turned down offers from, Australian Hyundai A League, English Leagues, Iran, China & India amongst others to set up GESA, an acronym of Gareth Edds Soccer Academy.
